One of the UK’s leading estimating firms is seeking a full-time estimator for our Northampton office. This office-based role involves performing take-offs, preparing bills of quantities, developing cost plans, and creating tenders for a diverse client base, including contractors, sub-contractors, developers, and private clients.
Potential background in PQS or as a main contractor.
Some experience in an estimating role (desirable but not essential).
Experience in taking off and pricing residential projects (desirable but not essential).
Experience in take-offs for residential new builds (desirable but not essential).
Familiarity with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
Experience with other take-off and estimating software (desirable but not essential).
Team player eager to work in a small, local estimating firm.
Set up estimating files upon receipt of enquiries (both electronic and paper) and manage filing/addendums.
Maintain archives.
Interface with supply chain members (suppliers, subcontractors) regarding tenders from enquiry to contract award.
Chase supplier, sub-contractor, and manufacturer quotations.
Conduct take-offs for residential and commercial projects.
Maintain enquiry quotation register per contract.
Complete various estimating tasks.
Assist in preparing internal training manuals.
Answer incoming calls, taking messages or redirecting as needed.
Perform general support and administrative duties as required.
Provide support to colleagues and the accounts team during peak periods.
Good understanding of building and construction.
Highly organised with excellent planning and prioritisation skills.
Analytical and detail-oriented.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Computer literate.
Ability to work under pressure.
Relevant estimator qualifications (desirable but not essential).
Excellent time management skills.
Practical team player with a hands-on approach.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
