Job Description: Managing Quantity Surveyor

Role Overview Responsible for managing construction-related commercial functions to achieve target margins as outlined in the annual Business Plan.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Commercial Management: Oversee the commercial aspects of the construction phase to maximize target margins.
  • Tender Process Management: Collaborate with the project team to manage tenders for consultants, contractors, and suppliers, providing detailed reports and recommendations to the management board.
  • Contract Documentation: Prepare contract documents for major suppliers and contractors, ensuring legal due diligence and financial closure.
  • Financial Management: Handle valuations, payments, claims, and Final Account settlements, addressing any commercial issues that arise.
  • Liaison: Work with the project team to resolve commercial implications related to land, planning, technical, finance, services, and sales contracts.
  • Project Management: Assist in development and construction phase project management as needed.
  • Risk Assessment: Contribute to assessing, reviewing, and mitigating commercial and contractual risks.
  • M&A Support: Provide commercial assistance and expertise to the M&A team.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure health and safety is prioritized in all commercial functions.
  • Relationship Management: Minimize disputes and foster mutually acceptable outcomes for all stakeholders.
  • Risk Reporting: Inform the management board of any unexpected key risks during the construction phase.
  • Team Development: Support team development for succession planning and talent growth.
  • Wellbeing Promotion: Foster the wellbeing of colleagues.
  • Senior Management Participation: Attend, report, and contribute to senior management and board meetings.

Person Specification

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience:
  • Essential:
    • Degree or equivalent in quantity surveying or a similar construction commercial qualification.
    • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a senior construction commercial management role.
  • Desirable:
    • Client-side experience in the renewables or other development sectors.
